Two setbacks ended in a net positive today on my trip back home. I missed the automatic upgrade on my IAH-LAX leg and I lost my favored economy plus window seat on the next segment when an equipment swap from the 777 with new premium cabins was downgraded to an old three-class 777. Fortunately the flight was overbooked in Y and I received a last-minute operational upgrade to business class at boarding time. While not competitive with the new lie-flat business class seats, this tired old business class experience was still miles above any economy class or domestic first class offering (pun intended haha).
